We booked the boat tour on Mafia Island to experience whale sharks in the wild and our tour guide was Amin. We can honestly say it was a fantastic experience! Standing at the bow of the boat, Amin searched for the giant creatures of the sea. While we could barely spot anything at all, he could see with eagle eyes where shadows were moving beneath the water. My wife, Amin, and I slipped into the ocean together and swam alongside one of the largest fish in the sea. Each snorkeling session lasted about a minute, because even with strong fin kicks it was impossible to keep up with these majestic giants gliding through the water. At least 10 times we jumped into the sea, as the boat constantly had to be repositioned.

We were incredibly lucky to have such an expert by our side. Again and again, Amin spotted the animals, confidently gave instructions, and dove down toward the whale shark armed with his GoPro, while we couldn’t even follow him that deep.

Back on land, he impressed us once more with his outstanding knowledge, even showing us how to transfer high-quality GoPro footage to an iPhone. Amin, a huge “Asante sana” (thank you very much), and we would gladly tour with you again anytime!

We had young children with us and our guide was alert and helpful while swimming with the whale sharks. If you are ever going to visit Mafia Island, I couldn’t recommend a better person to tour and learn about the history with. Amin comes highly recommended by our family of four. He is very knowledgeable with the history of Mafia and provides fantastic whale shark tours. We hope to be able to visit again and have him as our guide.

We went on our second whale shark tour with Amin and we can confidently say that he's the best! He's not only very good at spotting whale sharks, but also goes out of his way to find animals that you don't have to share with a bunch of other boats as we had to on our first tour. When other boats started arriving at the first shark, we went away and searched another one. In this way, the animals weren't stressed and that's what we appreciated so much. Moreover, when the other boats started going back, Amin still kept looking for other whale sharks that we could have just for ourselves. Absolutely amazing experience!

Thanks to Amin, we were able to see the whale sharks and swim with them. The other boat that had departed with us had already returned while we were still out searching. Thanks to his perseverance, we encountered a mother whale shark with her baby and were able to make several dives to swim alongside them. It was an emotional and unforgettable experience. Thank you, Amin.

My husband and I met Amin during an excursion to the Mafia Lighthouse. And we can say that he is a very knowledgeable and serious guide. We asked him to be our guide for another excursion and he did not disappoint us. It was an opportunity to visit little-known places, discovering villages and people.
