Mafia Potwe Safaris is your expert local tour and safari operator located in Kilindoni, Mafia Island, Tanzania.

'Papa Potwe' means whale shark in Swahili and our name is a tribute to the gentle giants inhabiting the waters off the coast of our beautiful island.

Founded in 2025, Mafia Potwe Safaris is run by Amin Ally and William Sandia, two local, experienced, passionate professionals with over 30 years' combined experience in the tour and hospitality industry. Our focus is on providing guests with the highest level of customer service, safety, and memories that will last a lifetime while delivering experiences that feel personal, purposeful, and unforgettable.

At the core of our business is to create Eco Adventures with Heart where positive outcomes ripple out into the community of Mafia Island. As part of our commitment to sustainable tourism and in an effort to preserve whale sharks for generations to come, we donate 5% of our proceeds to community and conservation organizations on Mafia Island. We employ and pay fair living wages to our local staff and guides and provide healthcare coverage and paid sick leave.
