About

About The Host

Jambo, I’m Amin. The Indian Ocean and island trails have been my home since childhood and I don’t just guide tours on Mafia Island, I share the rhythms of my life here. In the ocean, I guide guests to whale sharks—“papa potwe.” It takes patience, respect, and knowing the tides. Watching people meet these gentle giants is a quiet, humbling magic I love to share. But Mafia has two sides. On land, I lead you beyond the town into coconut groves, historic trails, and hidden sites like the Kua Ruins. We meet local communities, explore rich Swahili culture, and uncover the island’s stories. After a decade of guiding and now as the owner of Mafia Potwe Safaris, my greatest joy is helping guests connect the ocean’s power with the island’s soul. Join me, and step into my story.

If I am booked on another adventure, one of our other amazing local, experienced, and knowledgeable guides will lead you on your incredible journey on Mafia Island.
